The Summer Scratch League begins

On Wednesday 27th May, St Enodoc commenced their Summer Scratch League campaign with an away fixture against Newquay GC at Newquay.

The Club finds itself in what will surely prove to be a challenging group this year, facing Newquay, Trevose, and reigning CTC champions Carlyon Bay. Across the season we will play six matches in total (home and away), with three points available at each fixture: two singles matches and one foursomes.

The matches were drawn as follows:

  • Charlie Runnalls & George Tunbridge vs Neil Robinson & Dion Keyser
  • Louis Archer vs Matthew Heap
  • Bobby Godfrey vs Jon Hancock

Louis was the first to finish, securing a comfortable win over Matthew Heap. Remarkably, this was Louis’s first round at Newquay since winning the County Championship there in 2023 — clearly a course that suits him well.

Bobby followed shortly after, coming up just short against the highly respected county player Jon Hancock.

That left Charlie and George out on the course. After a birdie blitz through the middle of the round, they built a commanding lead: 4 up with 5 to play, then 3 up with 4 to play, then 2 up with 3 to play, and finally 1 up with 2 to play. With the match tightening, Charlie produced a superb iron shot into the 17th green, setting up a decisive moment. The pair went on to close out a 2&1 victory, securing the overall match win for St Enodoc.

A fantastic start to the campaign. Our next match is away at Trevose on Thursday 3rd June.
