On a bright sunny day at Newquay Golf Club, St Enodoc Frank Wills team won a competive quarter final match against Truro 4 points to 1 point.
Despite the conflict with a mixed golf competition at St Enodoc the team was once again very well supported with our supporters outnumbering those from Truro by a good margin.
With only one change to the team from the previous round, and that necessitated by injury, with Richard Matheron replacing Guy Hovill, Captain Bob Cruse was required by the handicap rules of the competition to modify the teams\' playing order. Nick Evans and Richard Matheron lead the way and despite being two down at one point came back well to win 2 up. Kevin Brenton and John Pease followed with a solid 2 & 1 win. The team\'s bankers Richard Hawken and Richard Lawrence raced to a three up lead after four holes to be swiftly pegged back to one up. They then birdied holes 10 and 11 to steady the ship before closing out on the 16th 3 & 2 courtesy of a stunning Hawken lob shot. They had four birdies in all and were four over par gross. The match being over the remaining two matches were deemed to be halved. Despite the score line the match was for a long time nip and tuck and could have gone Truro\'s way but for the score board pressure exerted by all our pairs.
Richard Matheron & Nick Evans beat Andrew Ring & Chris John 2 up
Kevin Brenton & John Pease beat Andy Parkin & Matt Salmon 2 & 1
Richard Hawken & Richard Lawrence beat Paul Trewhela & Jarred Mortimer 3 & 2
Sam Jarvis & Joe Combellack halved with Pete Sudders & Andy Watson
Keith Hawke & Jake Sanders halved with Simon Bray & Andy Beazley
The teams thus repaired to supper with one St Enodoc team member (the vertically challenged one) bringing his immaculate Hugo Boss blazer covered in an equally smart black bin liner !
