The annual ‘Bucks’ competition – The Texaco Cup, took place Sunday 24th January on the Holywell Course, with all the promise of fair weather and fantastic sportsmanship.
It was a privilege to observe some masters of our beautiful game prepare, such as Adrian Miles practicing as always his sublime chipping technique, followed by providing Sam Jarvis with a free golf clinic on the range prior to tee off.
The competitive banter was only momentarily disturbed by the rare sighting of Justin Bieber on the 1st tee? Concerns were raised when his pre match routine was witnessed to consist solely of counting up which holes he had ‘2 shots’ on.
The regular ‘Bucks’ players were joined by a number of invited guests and a great competitive day was had by all, with over 32 competitors striving to score the most stableford points to secure the coveted trophy and green jacket. All proceeds from the day are donated to the Motor Neurone Disease charity, who have long established links with the club. It is with great pride that through the creative use of fines by Roger Tremain and Colin Garnett, team entry fees and kind donations, the day raised £360.
There were impressive scores from a number of players. Our superb compere for the evening (Julian Darnell) managed to secure 3rd position (on countback) with 39 points. 2nd place was awarded to Brian Crawley with 41 points, and following countback the Texaco Cup was won by Walter Dudley again with 41 points.
