The Mixed Foursomes Stableford Viscountess Clifden trophy which consists of a cigarette box and glass perfume bottle were first played for in 1906 and were subsequently “mislaid” for many years.
On Sunday August 16th, under thundery skies, twenty couples set forth to do battle on the courses in the foursomes format. In the Holywell competition the winners pipped Bobbie and Tony Rounsevell, who on most days would win with their total, by a point.
Despite the humid conditions scoring was good and the prize winners were as follows;
Viscountess Clifden ( Church course)
1st. Barbara & Paddy Graham 33pts (£25 each, back on card)
2nd. Ned & Sarah Densham 32 pts. ( £16 each )
3rd. Larry Barnecutt & Norman Evans 32 pts ( £8 each)
1st Kath & Terry Buscombe 42 pts ( £ 21 each )
Sadly no formal prizegiving and thus no photographs !
