The final of the Tudor Edwards Trophy was played last Thursday, 19th March 2015. The knockout competition started back in December and culminated on Thursday in a tough, tight match between Steve and Mike Buse and Joe Combellack and Mike Masters.
Battle lines were drawn in the clubhouse before the match started, it was youthful vigor versus sage experience. When Mike Buse had finished his Horlicks the others sprinted to the first tee for a 2.20 start.
Both pairs had seen off steady opponents through the rounds to have well deserved places in the final. Joe Combellack and Mike Masters saw off Malcolm Cole and Tony Rounsevell in the semi, with Steve and Mike Buse knocking out Kevin Brenton and Richard Matheron for their spot in the final. The final match was close throughout. Mike Masters and Joe were 2 up through the 7th but Steve and Mike Buse fought back around the Church. The father, son team worked well and brought what they needed to win the match on the 17th.
Well done Steve and Mike – there’s life in the old dog yet!
