The Tom Watson Wedge which was played on Saturday 20th July is a team of four competition with 2 scores to count on the front nine with 3 to count on the back nine with 1 bonus point being awarded for any gross birdies playing from the yellow tees and 1 bonus point for any gross pars or better playing from the blue tees, this however could be a high risk strategy as no points were awarded for anything over par if playing from the blue tees. As a result there were plenty of team tactics being played with decisions on tees not being decided till the results of the first team members shots being seen. With the hot dry spell continuing the course has been changing by the day, certainly the rough has wilted and shots are becoming playable again from it but in exchange the fairways have become hard and bumpy with the unpredictable bounce of the ball. On the day it was very hot but there was a blustery wind which did help the players keep cool but further added the difficulty of producing a good score.
20 teams took part and the results were very close with the team of Simon Pain, Malcolm Cole, Richard Blake & Neil Carhart pipping Matt Mills, Steve Smith, John Retford & Keith Thompson on countback.
Those in the money were:-
1st S Pain, M Cole, R Blake, N Carhart 108 points
2nd M Mills, S Smith, J Retford, K Thompson 108 points
