In the presence of the Ladies Captain, Club Captain and many supporters our Ladies Gammon Trophy team yesterday, 15th July, beat Truro in a 3rd round tie at sunny but breezy Perranporth.
This was a very close match thrillingly decided in extra time by two nailbiting matches which went to the 19th and 20th holes respectively.
The match did not start well for St Enodoc with the withdrawal from the team, through illness, of Katie Rule leaving Jean Tatum to play County Champion Sarah-Jane Boyd. With losses also for the next two players our Ladies were three down and needing to win the last four games. Lauren Williams and Sarah Sandercock duly delivered a point each. However Bev Vann found herself two down with two to play and used all her experience to pull back both the 17th and 18th to force extra holes. The first extra hole was straight into the strengthening wind and Bev duly delivered the point the team needed with an apparently nerveless win.
This left the last pair on the course to decide the match. Di Dingle had not expected to play having been selected as a reserve but now she really delivered in a very tight match. One down and behind for a long time against an opponent who chipped and putted well all afternoon Di finally squared the match on the 17th. The 18th was halved leaving this match also to go to extra holes. On the 1st extra hole Di\'s opponent had a putt for the match which missed and so onto the 20th hole, the long par 5 up the hill. With rather better course management Di was close to the green in three and her opponent in four. A chip and two putts later Di had a famous win to earn the gratitude of Team Captain Meg Godfrey and the rest of the team.
Speaking after the match Ladies Captain Penny Moon said \"I wish to especially thank all our supporters who came today and whose presence was really appreciated by the team\"
