The Pandora\' Box s cross country course Holywell competition has in its 2 previous years been played in June. With clashes this year it was put back to 8th November and by general consensus to a much more suitable date as the lush rough had died back which made everyone\'s life easier. Having said that the weather looked very threatening the day before but on the day it was certainly windy but the rain was never more intense than drizzle.
The format was essentially a four person mixed Dallas Scramble for the 13 hole event however with various changes and drop outs there were teams of 3 and four with some amazing formula for the threes to equate to 10% of the combined handicap which completely eluded your reporter but by all accounts was eminently fair.
One of the highlight holes was from the little used far left 5th tee back up to the 12th green which was long, uphill and into the stiff breeze. Another was the 18th tee to the small 16th green, all very testing in the conditions. To confuse the players there was a putting competition in the middle of the round on the 7th green organised with even more complicated scoring by Bob Cruse which was won by Geoff Matthews, Sue Roworth and Richard Oliver.
Winners of the putting Geoff Matthews, Ladies Captain Annie Cruse, Sue Roworth and Richard Oliver
The scoring for the Pandora\'s was excellent and those in the wine bottles were:-
1st Fiona Lunt, Jim Crouch and Barbara Robson 37.5
2nd Mike Roach, Nigel Ashcroft, Gloria Crouch & Jean Nicholls 38.8
3rd Bev Vann, Pat Parry, John Baxter & Stuart Sandercock 40.2
All in all a good fun and social event enjoyed by all those who took part.
