The Ernie Goodman Trophy is St Enodoc\'s main Men\'s Open meeting and attracts a full field from all parts of the country not only as a result of the temptation of 36 holes on our Church course but also for the extremely generous cash prizes and as usual it was fully subscribed despite the fact that there was a county match between Cornwall and Devon the same day. The spell of warm settled weather saw the players enjoy wonderful playing conditions even though the wind did pick in the afternoon to about a two club strength.
St Enodoc is not the longest of the classic links courses but what it lacks in yardage it makes up for in its defences with tight lies, deep rough and well guarded greens and just to make it even harder on the day a large proportion of the pin positions were as tough as they could possibly be. The main prize for the Goodman Trophy was won by Wayne Tibbatts from the Warwickshire with a nett 141 score 2 clear of second place Craig Manson (Clevedon). In the Rachel Biddle Trophy for the best Gross scores the winner was Royal North Devon\'s Jimmy Mullen with a gross score of 144 followed by Walton Heath and St Enodoc Member Mark Justice on 145. The eagle eyed of you will remember that Jimmy qualified and played in this year\'s Open at Hoylake.
