A week later than normal to avoid a fixture clash meant the field for this year's Ernie Goodman Trophy was of a much higher standard than last year and had competitors from as far afield as Cheshire. The weather forecast all week was for dire conditions but it turned out almost completely dry, however the weather gods had their revenge with a really difficult and strong South Easterly wind which made play very tough. A good example was that many players were hitting Driver into the Par 3 17th including Perranporth's Trevor Johnson who promptly had a Hole in One – his fifth! One other amazing feat was performed by Tehidy's Rob McGregor, a stalwart of the County side, who went Double Bogey 5, Birdie 3, Eagle 2 on holes 5,6 and 7.
With good money on the morning and afternoon sweeps which were won by Josh Greenaway (Bowood and St Enodoc) and George Carroll (Dorset Golf & Country Club) respectively we came to the main prizes which were for the Rachel Biddle Trophy for Gross scores and the Goodman Trophy itself for the best Net scores over the 36 holes. Those in the prizes were;-
1. George Carroll (Dorset Golf & Country Club) 148 Nett
2. Craig Manson (Clevedon) 148
3. Rob Davies (Cotswold Edge) 148
4. Darren Robinson (Cirencester) 149
Rachel Biddle winner Rob Davies with Captain David Elliott
The Rachel Biddle Trophy
1. Rob Davies (Cotswold Edge) 148
2. Joe Cruse (St Enodoc) 148
3. Josh Greenaway (Bowood and St Enodoc) 149
4. James McCormick (Northenden) 150
Well done to both our winners who came from some distance away, George from Weymouth and old St Enodoc CTC team member Rod Davies making a welcome return from the Cotswolds. As you can see the scores were all exceptionally close and reflected the quality of the play in very tricky conditions. There were some very weary faces afterwards but all the players had enjoyed the challenge of St Enodoc which was in superb condition but made difficult in the prevailing conditions.
