On Friday 15th November, 58 brave souls, representing our Lady Vets and Seniors sections, set out on the Holywell in very cold, but (almost) dry conditions to contest the popular Annual Duck Dawdle. This year we were very pleased to have two single figure handicappers in the mix. Our Chairman, Martin Biddle and ex-professional (almost) Steve Bonham managed to get into the prizes, but only just! I hope Martin enjoys using the “Toilet Duck” cleaner and we know Kath will make sure he gets good use out of the “Duck” washing up brush!
More seriously, the conditions were really quite harsh, and all the competitors were, I am sure, pleased to return to our warm and welcoming Clubhouse to enjoy a super meal prepared by our catering team to whom we offer our grateful thanks.
The “Duck” draw held for the benefit of “Children in Need” raised a magnificent total of £276 and thanks are due to the Lady Vets Vice Captain, Dill Buchanan, who managed to catch most of our unsuspecting visitors and other members not taking part in the Dawdle. The somewhat chaotic quiz was a joint victory for the teams of David Elliott and Martin Biddle who just happened to be sitting next to each other, no collusion there I am sure!
The winners of the actual Golf were the team of Brenda Sandry, Pat Parry, Jim Crouch and, as usual, Keith Hawke with a great total of 113 points. Well done to them and all the competitors for a super day and thanks to Beth, Annie and David who made it all very easy.
I am looking forward to good weather for our next fixture, the Lamb Gambol on 24th April 2020, so put the date in your diary for a “fun” day out!
