The annual Chicken Chase was held on Saturday 15th December and was played on the Holywell Course. This is always a fun, team competition and the format this year was a better ball competition where the best two scores from a team of four, count on each hole.
There was an impressive array of festive hats on display as all eighteen teams made their way to the starting positions and players were fortified with port and delicious mince pies at the 8th tee. Celia Jarvis and Annie Hawkey served the refreshments with style as they gave Celia’s car a Christmas “make-over” to transform it into Santa’s Grotto!
After a couple of icy showers, everyone was pleased to return to the clubhouse where they sat down to a lovely roast turkey dinner with all the trimmings. After lunch, the carol singing was led by Janet Townsend and Pat Parry and they had to draw on all their years of teaching experience to maintain order and discipline in the chaotic rendition of “The twelve days of Christmas.”
To finish off a very pleasant and successful day, prizes were awarded by Captain Lynn Ashcroft and her Vice- Captain Jax Buse to the top six teams:
1st Annie Cruse, Edna Alford, Pat Parry, Sue Richards 98 pts (on count back)
2nd Heather Brewer, Rhiannon Rich, Annie Matthews, Bobbie Rounsevell 98 pts
3rd Shannon Ashcroft, Jane Symons, Jo Carthew, Brenda Sandry 94 pts
4th Susie Willmott, Mary Baillie, Cath Buscombe, Di Mindell 92 pts
5th Sarah Sandercock, Chrissie Henderson, Di Keates, Sheilagh Lees 89pts
6th Trudy Tremain, Carol Dell, Ann Worden, Hester Burt 88 pts
It was a double celebration for Edna Alford, as well as being a member of the winning team Edna was also presented with the 2012 EWGA Medal which is awarded to the player with the 4 best medal scores of the year. Edna has the opportunity to represent the club at the Regional Finals in Dorset next April. Thanks to everyone who contributed to a most enjoyable day.
