Club Captain Tony Rounsevell joined 26 others to contest the Bucks Cup for the first time on Sunday 8th June. The `Bucks` meet every Sunday morning and play on the Holywell Course. The group was started many years ago with one of the founding members being John `Buck` Buchanan , hence the name. Over the years many St.Enodoc members have been involved with the Bucks and current regulars range in ages from 18 to 80+ and cover all handicaps as well.
The `Bucks` play for the Texaco Cup annually in January and now have a brand new trophy to play for, kindly donated by Jan Buchanan in memory of John `Buck` Buchanan. Played off full club handicap on the Holywell Course scores were kept respectable by the bright but breezy conditions. Indeed only 6 players played below their handicaps. The best of these and winner of the `Bucks Cup` was Colin Garnett with 44 points, Dave Oldham came 2nd on 40 points and Mike Kent was 3rd with 39 points. Colin is now the current holder of both the Texaco and Bucks cups (and the infamous green jacket.)
Nearest the pin on the 5th from the back tee was Mike Kent.
Longest drive on the 6th was Julian Darnell.
Longest drive on the 14th was Tony Martin.
Nearest the pin on the 15th was Elvin Dalley.
The `Bucks` use these events to raise money for charity with sweep money and fines etc. all going in to the pot and treasurer Dave Pooley took this opportunity to present over £500 to the Motor Neurone Disease Association which was gratefully accepted by Jenny Truelove on their behalf. Following the presentations a pasty lunch was enjoyed by all.
