The 47th Spring tour of the Seniors Golfing Society to RND and St Enodoc came to us on 4th and 5th May. The ‘Seniors’ were led by their National Captain Tony Haley and Match Manager Humphrey Claxton, they had travelled from as far afield as Lincolnshire, Cambridge and Kent.
They had cloud with sunny spells for the two days with a persistent cold easterly, which gusted up to 40mph on the Friday late morning.
Senior Section Day on Thursday 4th
Our Senior section had a friendly guest day on Thursday, managed by John Bower with Tony Mindel our Captain in a non-playing lead role. It was great to see so many additional Seniors of theirs and ours having a great time surrounding the day. The eight pairs of Foursomes went out from 8.40 am and were returning to the clubhouse by 12 onwards.
St Enodoc Club Match on Friday 5th
The club match on Friday was again 8 pairs of Foursomes and some followers, teeing off from 8.40am and playing with a difference of 3/8 of the combined handicaps to encourage closer games. The match was certainly close with a score of 4:4 giving a draw, and most of the games were closely contested with some finishing on the last green.
Everyone involved reported great camaraderie and friendship and certainly the soup and sandwich lunches on both days were buzzing with good conversation and plenty of humour.
Senior Golfers Society Dinner
The ‘Seniors’ dinner on Thursday night in our dining room was as always well attended and went very well, with good entertainment. The ‘Seniors’ and their wives totalled over 50 and almost 20 guests from St Enodoc included Chairman Julian and his wife, Captain Tony and his wife Diana, our seniors captain Keith and his wife and a number of past captains and officers of the club. Again there was a great atmosphere with lots of laughter and the three course meal was excellent with wines provided by our hosts.
Our thanks go to John Bower for leading for St Enodoc ably assisted in preparations by Steve Smith and Matt Mills with the help of many others. The Seniors said formally and informally that we are lucky to have such a good staff team and that the whole visit including food was great. They offered their sincere thanks to all involved, in making their tour a great success.
