On Friday 11th December the annual competition between members of the Committees and greenkeeping staff took place; the format has changed over the years and was played in a Better Ball format with two teams of three players and two of four players, suitably handicapped. Play started on the Holywell in light drizzle which in the middle of the round became heavy rain and ended in dry conditions but by which time everyone was well soaked.
Thankfully on the 11th tee we were provided with excellent mulled wine and a mince pie which raised everyone's spirits considerably. The scores were close and the winners with 81 points only made it on countback. The clever four were Course Manager Scott Gibson, our horticultural engineer Steve Urell, Captain David Elliott and Committee Member Jane Bendall. Scott is seen holding the magnificent trophy which has always been played for but which disappeared for several years and was thought to be lost for ever. A rather shamefaced Scott eventually found it in his home, hopefully it will not leave the curtilage of the Club again!
