Saturday was a glorious day for golf, after weeks of wind and rain. Playing in dry, still conditions it seems the Men really can play golf after all! Scores were high, as in the weekend’s rugby with England triumphant in the Six Nations. Our competition was a Stableford Bisque in which all players play off their full handicap but can choose where to play their shots, using a maximum of 2 on any one hole.
Pete Liddicoat chose to play his card as normal off his 15 handicap and stormed the course with gross birdies on the 4th and the 6th finishing with 42 points in 1st place. Interestingly, last year’s winner also played his card as normal. Kevin Brenton finished with 40 points in 2nd place. He took full advantage of his choice to use one of his 6 shots on the 6th where he hit a birdie. Kevin also birdied 9, 11 and 14.
Neil Bradley and Rod Frost both scored 39 points to take 3rd and 4th, they chose different tactics with Neil saving his shots to use on 17 and 18 earning him 5 points on each, while Rod played his card as normal. They were separated by countback so Neil’s ploy did paid off.
Paul Warren and Dave Bastard were in 5th and 6th place also separated by countback on 38 points apiece, Paul used his shots on the last 4 hole wisely to just nudge ahead. Also in the prizes Andy Burt score 37 points, Stuart Fleet and Tuck Clagett finished on 36 points and Kevin Richards, Josh Greenaway and Nigel Buse had 35 points.
