The Semi-Final of the A Team Championship saw St Enodoc up against Tehidy with the first match being Steve Chapman and Joe Cruse who had a relatively easy 3 & 2 win which was offset by Antony Nash and Martin Biddle going down 4 & 3. So yet again it was down to the final match with Rob Davies and Steve Buse who had the narrowest of victories winning 1 up. A great result and revenge for having lost to Tehidy in the first round of the CTC in the winter.
So to the Final which saw us up against old rivals Trevose who beat Perranporth in the Semis with match number one being Steve Chapman and Martin Biddle against Dave Cowan and Mark Pawley which proved to be a tense affair with St Enodoc winning just 1 up. Match 2 saw Steve Buse and Rob Davies lose 2 & 1 on the 17th green against Jonathan Tremain and Nick Gammon. So the final match would be the decider and it had been close all the way was between Joe Cruse and Antony Nash and Richard Ackland and Steve Davis.
It was all square with two to play, an excellent tee shot on 17 to about 8 feet by Joe and a solid Birdie putt by Antony saw St. Enodoc 1 up on the 18th tee. Antony returned the favour with an excellent drive leaving Joe a straightforward shot to the green from 140 yards. Richard Ackland\'s second was long just off the back of the green with Joe\'s nicely pin high. Steve\'s putt was a bit strong but still left a realistic putt for a 4. We could now afford 2 putts for the win and the Championship at which point Antony knocked the ball with style straight in to finish Birdie Birdie to win 2 up. So a great win on home soil and always good to beat our old friends Trevose.
While all this excitement was going on the Royal Cornwall Cup was taking place with 121 entries for this Stableford event. The winner was Jack Smith from China Fleet with 37 points after which St Enodoc players filled 7 of the remaining 9 places in the top 10. They were 2nd John Rowe 37 pts, 3rd Pete Liddicoat 36 pts, 4th Charlie Runnalls 35 pts, 6th John Arnold 35 pts, 7th Derrick Daniels 35 pts, 8th Kevin (in lights again) Richards 35 pts, 9th Paul Warren 34 pts. Well done the home team.
