Sunday 15th July saw the St Enodoc ladies come up against Perranporth in the quarter finals at Chinafleet. As the current holders of the Gammon Trophy, Perranporth were always going to be a tough team to beat. With the match being played on neutral ground there was always going to be a glimmer of hope in making it to the next round, but alas, it wasn't to be.
Caroline Hume-Kendall and Kath Biddle were pitted against two of Cornwall County Ladies brightest young talent's in the form of Danielle Price and Olivia Trewhela respectively. It was a valiant effort by Kath as she found herself four down after five. Kath dug in and pegged a few holes back to two down, but couldn't gain anymore ground and the match finished on the 14th green. Seasoned veteran Sue Ofield won her match against another Cornwall County golfer Nikki Hodge 3&1, whilst Suzy Willmott came up against the formidable Jan Sargeant who saw her off winning 4&2 to take Perranporth to 3-1 up.
With four matches concluded and the score now in Perranporth's favour, the fifth match hung in the balance as Barbara Graham and her opponent took it to the 19th. Jo Rysedale won the match with a birdie putt to book their place in the Semi-FInal of the Gammon Trophy. Match six saw Meg Godfrey meet Angie Chapman for the second time this year with the match finishing on the 16th adding a point to St Enodoc's score sheet. The final match again proved to be a hard contest with Bev Vann and Vicki Lee-Comyn coming finishing with a half.
It was a tough day all round with all the matches played in good spirit. We would like to wish Perranporth good luck in their Semi-Final against Launceston in August.
The final score was St Enodoc 2.5 - Perranporth 4.5
