Sunday 17th November was a busy day for St Enodoc golf all round. At home the members played a mixed greensome and played host to the CTC match between Newquay and Trevose as well as The St Enodoc President's Cup team and the CTC team playing there matches away at West Cornwall and Bude respectively.
The team Captain Norman Evans, kept the side largely unchanged to play against Mullion all bar one exception. Lewis Bradley was set to step in as a replacement, but he himself had to be replaced last minute by Paul Clemens after getting cut in the club competition the day before making him inelligible to play! On the day it proved to be a solid test of resolve with three of the matches going to the 18th, one of them being Phil Hoare who landed in the right hand bunker. He recovered with a fantastic chip out of the bunker with the shot landing a few feet from the hole. This left a makeable putt, but it all came down to what his opponent did and unfortunately for Phil the putt from a good ten to twelve feet away drained straight into the hole!
With wins from John Paul, who also went to the 18th and Andy Bunt, St Enodoc were hopeful that they might just make it. Liam Bateman helped the cause with his immense effort on the day. After going four down in the match Liam fought back to win 2&1 adding to his one hundred percent record with two wins from two! Keith Thompson got a half and Matt Fox having been 4up managed to scrabble a half from his match. Paul Clemens had a fight on his hands for he played well on the day, but couldn't match his opponent who was under par on the back nine and it wasn't to be for Jeremy Knight and Nigel Connolly who both missed out.
It was a valiant effort on the day with the final result Mullion 5 St Enodoc 4. We wish Mullion the very best of luck in the next round and thank you to everyone for their effort!
