St Enodoc in cruise control of Cornwall Bowl 1st round tie against Trevose

With a chill easterly breeze perhaps indicating the end of our wonderful Indian Summer the St Enodoc Cornwall Bowl team set out today (Saturday 17th October) to go one better than last winters quarter final losing team. Captain Terry Johns and his minder Derrick Daniels were confident that this years team are stronger than that of last winter and hopeful of Bowl success for St Enodoc for the first time since 2007; however of all the CGU winter knock out competitions this is arguably the most difficult. Every club in the County has a strong section of mid-handicap golfers and thus plenty to choose from, a tough competition to win then.

This first round tie was against close neighbours and local rivals Trevose; the venue The Point at Polzeath and which has received much needed investment and a make over in the last couple of years. The course was nicely presented and in immaculate condition.

First off for St Enodoc were Colin Reynolds and Keith Thompson; it would be neither unsporting or inaccurate to say that they crushed their Trevose opponents, winning by the huge margin of 8 & 7. Next up Mike and Nigel Buse will doubtless be disappointed that they missed out on a golden opportunity to make the match result a whitewash by losing on the 18th. Terry Carthew and Paul Chapman cruised to a 5 & 4 win whilst Ryan Perring and Paul Honey had to work hard for their 2 & 1 win. Derek Rushton and Joe Tamblyn were in fine form to give their opponents no chance and finished on the 14th green with a fine 6 & 5 win. Match result St Enodoc 4 Trevose 1.
