An intrepid group of 8 golfers from St.Enodoc (including 1 guest from Perranporth) undertook the journey to Lucerne in Switzerland for the annual Swiss-British Golf Friendship tournament at Sempachersee on Friday the 4th of September.
Malcolm and Judy Cole, Allen and Jean Nicholls, Geoff and Annie Matthews and Bill and Vicky Comyn braved the wilds of rural France and glorious Switzerland to enjoy the fruits of their endeavours.
A trip to the Stanserhorn (by the first Cabrio-Cablecar in the world), a trip around Lake Lucerne by boat and a great days’ golfing at Engleberg set beneath towering mountains were amongst the rewards.
On the Friday at Sempachersee Golf Club our hopes were not high based on results from previous years. However Vicky Comyn (our Perranporth Guest – handicap 7) won the day for the ladies whilst our own Geoff Matthews came a creditable 3rd in the men’s competition.
After a sumptuous meal and some excellent entertainment we said a sad farewell to our hospitable hosts, for a short night’s rest and a long but satisfying journey home.
Note from Niblick: It is not correct, as maliciously suggested by some, that this trip had something to do with bank accounts. Niblick believes that a more likely explanation is that as Malcolm and Allen are Vice-President and supporter respectively of Plymouth Argyll FC they were secretly invited by FIFA to give advice on how to sort out the mess at that benighted nest of vipers.
