St Enodoc has the honour of hosting the South Western Counties Golf Association Championships which are taking place between Sunday 5th June and Friday 10th and are contested by the teams representing the County Golf Associations of Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Dorset. The individual County teams will play each other on a Round Robin basis for the Match play event with eight singles matches in the morning and four Foursomes in the afternoon from their squads of 10 players.
The Cornwall team has one change due to the non availability of Sandy Kirton who is replaced by County Junior Captain Jared Mortimore and the full team is:- Joe Cruse (St Enodoc), Ryan Curtis (Bude & North Cornwall), Harry Hall, Matt Richards (West Cornwall), Chris Fleming, Conor Wilson (Perranporth), Richard Jasper (Launceston), Josh Greenaway (Bowood Park), Rob MacGregor (Tehidy Park) and Jared Mortimore (Truro).
Tuesday 7th June is a break from this format for the individual 36 hole Medal event for the South Western Counties Amateur Championship. Each county will also nominate 6 players whose aggregate scores will determine the winners of the Medal play competition which is also the qualifier for the English County Championship which Cornwall won in 2014, with the winning county going forward to the English Counties Finals at Sandwell Park, these incidentally were held at St Enodoc in 2005. When South West Week was last held at St Enodoc in 2007 the winner on the day was Sam Matton (Bowood Wiltshire) with scores of 65 & 67 and runner up Chris Wood (Long Ashton) with 68 & 67. Chris is now riding high on the European Tour having recently won the prestigious BMW at Wentworth and will hopefully make the Ryder Cup team in September. This is the day when we, as Members, hopefully can put the maximum effort into being Ball Spotters out on the course. This is a great way to see top quality Amateur golf at close quarters and be useful at the same time! The sign up sheets are in the Clubhouse.
