Monday 4th of September dawned misty and humid and so it was at noon as the Old Saints welcomed The Point for the return match having won the first leg 41/2 to 31/2.
Revenge was the order of the day for Captain Keith Hawke playing with Paul Godfrey as they were beaten 4 & 3 at the Point. All square at the turn turned into 3 up after 12 and onwards to a 4 & 3 win on the 15th. Good start. Stalwarts Frank Harper & Michael Maberly turned a 2 down after 7 into a 3 & 2 win but match 3 Roger Priestley and Stuart Sandercock lost 2 down. Matches 4,5&6 went to the Saints with a winning 2 & 1 win in match 6 for Mike Lovett & John Westlake which gave Mike a commendable sequence of 8 played, 7 wins and 1 half, very good Mike. John Russell and David Ramsbottom won the 18th hole to half their match before the very solid pair of Nigel Thomas & Keith Willmott brought home the bacon with a fantastic 5 & 4 win.
So 61/2 to 11/2 on the day, added to the to the first match gave the Old Saints a very good 11 to 5 overall win. Well played guys.
Oh, and finally, for the first time this season the Nearest the Pin went to, Yes you got it me. Thanks again everyone, Captain Keith Hawke
