The return match between the two clubs was played at Bowood Park on Wednesday, 06 April and in rather blustery conditions, the visitors lost to their hosts in another close encounter by 5 -3.
Old Hickory understands that mention should be made of two worthy Old Saints. The consistent Richard Parsons who was in sparkling form against some ex-colleagues, managing to win 2 & 1, and Seniors’ Captain, that eloquent explorer of the English language, Paul Godfrey. This latter played what was probably the shot of the day on the 15th hitting his driver (!) from the short rough over 200 yards to within 10 feet of the pin ! This does suggest that his tee shot must have been considerably less spectacular !
Bowood hospitality and fellowship was at the usual generous standard, as was the delightful and long parkland course.

Old Hickory’s trivia: People who buy houses on golf courses always seem to be very surprised and then concerned to discover that a game in which hard balls are hit with considerable force is being played practically in their front gardens - and that something must be done about it !
