It is often a chastening experience to lose a match, but to lose on home turf, where the Old Saints are usually a safe bet, it is a no sweet pill to swallow. However, on a still, dry, October afternoon, in a keenly contested match against Lanhydrock, on Friday 23rd, the Seniors went down 3½ - 4½. Two games finished on the eighteenth, but with the result going in favour of the visitors and one anonymous home pair, being 3 up with 4 to play, managed to steal defeat from the jaws of victory by losing all four holes ! Captain of the Day, Derick Rushton was quick to praise the visitors’ quality of play and although Lanhydrock claimed a rare win on the links, they did win it, rather than the home team throwing it away. Some small consolation was gained though, as over the two matches, our Seniors won on aggregate by one point.

Old Hickory’s Trivia:
Strokes always accumulate faster than they can be forgotten.
Since bad shots come in groups of three, a fourth bad shot is actually the beginning of the next group of three.
