The Seniors held their annual Open, this year under an enlarged format. In previous years, many applicants have had to be turned away because of the high demand. This year, the entry was increased to 136 players, many travelling down from well up country. Therefore, virtually all applicants were successful.
This meant a long day with teeing off starting at 8.30 and finishing at 1.30. The final pairings came in at 7 pm, just before the light faded. It was quite chilly to start with and then the Enodoc wind started up. However, conditions were good with no rain and the Seniors received many compliments about the organisation, the course and the dinner.
No St Enodoc players featured in any of the prizes, the winners being A Vickery from Enmore Park and M Ramsden from Taunton and Pickeridge with 43 points. (pictured above with, left Treasurer Keith Hawke, 3rd from left Seniors Captain Colin Earle, along with the winning pair) They won the Norman Walmsley Trophy with very handsome prizes.
2nd S Palmer from Bath and M Palmer from Orchard Leigh 41 points
3rd G Nevitt and P Hicks both from Launceston 40 points on C/B
4th L Jeffrey and C Doyle from Taunton and Pickeridge 40 points
5th D Sands from Clevedon and J Long from Wood Spring 39 points on C/B
6th T Stevens and A House from Whitsand Bay 39 points
It was a very successful day and the prestigious event must rank highly for similar events in the South West.
It was a long day and thanks must be given to all the volunteers and the Club Staff, some people working in excess of 12 hours. Particular thanks must go to the Open Secretary, John Harbinson who carries out the substantial administration required each year.
