Following their heavy defeat when visiting the links earlier in the season, Launceston managed to defeat the Seniors 5 – 3 on their home ground on Monday, 18 August. The weather was kind and the course immaculate and lush, the latter pleasing some of the higher handicappers when they found some grass under the ball, even though that luxury failed to translate into victory. The hospitality was as good as ever, though Captain of the Day, Geoff Matthews suspected some friendly gamesmanship when the pairings on the course differed from those previously submitted. However, Geoff was quick to ‘retaliate’ by emphasizing that the Old Saints still retained the annual trophy by winning overall by 9½ - 6½, which was fortunate as he had forgotten to take the trophy anyway ! Ah …… the joys of senior golf !
NTP: Harry Gliddon – even if the home captain announced that it was for Terri, who happens to be Harry’s wife !!
