On a mostly dry day there was a record entry of 20 Juniors in the fifth year of this increasingly popular competition.
On the Holywell course twelve pairs of Seniors & Juniors played a Greensome Stableford with some commendably high scoring. In second place, with a score which one would normally have expected to be winning, were Ian Mckelvey and Kaiamae Cock with 46 points, but in first place with the truly remarkable score of 51 points were the father and daughter combination of Shaun and Rebecca Beare.
Meanwhile on the Church course eight Senior and Junior pairings were battling it out in another high-scoring competition, the winners on count-back with 45 points being Richard Parsons and Sam McLoskey, with Mike Maberly and Jake Saunders in second place.
During the play on the Church it soon became clear that the competition was a misnomer, as the Juniors were in most, perhaps all, cases the senior players and the Seniors the junior, so there is scope for the competition to be re-named. Your scribe’s suggestion is ‘Senior juniors & Junior seniors’, with Seniors versus Juniors definitely to be avoided.
