Perhaps the Seniors have been watching England in the World Cup because their opening match in the new season followed the example set by our cricketers as they suffered defeat at Saunton on Friday, 06 March.
Captain Richard Parsons thought that he had selected a strong team for the long journey into Devon, but all the intense winter training (Merlot, Shiraz, Carlsberg, Doom Bar and 40 winks after a heavy lunch) was to no avail. On this occasion, the Saints were no match for their hosts and in the small hours Richard was said to be back at the drawing board.
Despite six of the eight matches going to the 17th or 18th holes, five of them resulted in wins for the opposition and in the end, the old boys lost 7-1 and this despite the sunshine and a course in fine condition.
