Our match against Trevose at home seems to always be affected by the weather. Last year we had to postpone due to horrendous rain and this year it was wind, rain and the occassional sunshine!! We were hoping to overturn our 5.5 to 2.5 defeat back in May. My team appeared quietly confident and at noon sharp we started out.
My partner Colin Earle was in tip-top form and we soon built a 2 hole lead. On the 7th tee Colin became a trick shot specialist, ball was nicely teed up, back swing at its height, down swing in full flow, WHEN, at the bottom of the down swing the ball blew off the tee, club head flying, no chance to stop, and with the ball on the ground Colin hit the ball !! straight down the middle-brilliant. On the 14th our world fell apart and the opposition won all of the last 5 holes to win 2 up!!
By the fourth match we were 2.5 to .5 down. Good wins by Steve Smith with Dereck Stevens followed by Kevin Burton and Richard Norsworthy helped our situation but alas we petered out to a 5 to 3 defeat. Thanks lads for a brave effort but Trevose were worthy of their win.
