In glorious weather, the old boys gathered for their monthly qualifier on the Church course on Monday, 29 June. They made the occasion a special one by elevating it above the usual, with prizes, sandwiches, tea and cakes as part of the 125th year celebrations.
As ever, the course was in pristine condition, but the scores suggest that there was either some golf of doubtful quality, or the flourishing rough took too many casualties. In truth it was probably a little, or a lot of both ! Unusually, in a field of 32, not one player managed to break par.
However, the post-golf convivial gathering enjoyed some tea-time delights from the kitchen which included an opportunity to eat a rice paper Club logo on a cream cake. One or two of the less sophisticated diners were seen to be in some difficulty with their dentures, having confused the rice paper with the cake-case, whilst the dentist present was surreptitiously touting for business !
Following a nostalgic, amusing and historical discourse by the Club Captain, prizes were distributed as follows:
1st Steve Smith 35 pts
2nd Derek Rushton 34
3rd Peter Commings 32
4th Nigel Thomas 32
5th Colin Earle 32
6th Keith Hawke 31
7th Kevin Birkett 31
NTP: 8th – Roger Priestly 15th – Garry Cooper
