The old Saints appeared to overcome the trauma consequent upon the rather (no, very) heavy defeat at Saunton the previous week, by producing a victory on the links on Monday, 16 March. No doubt inspired by the generous advice and support, given so freely, by several of their senior colleagues not playing in the match, the old boys managed to beat their visitors, Truro, by 5 -3.
Although the win may be described as ‘comfortable’ it was not as comfortable as some of the scores might suggest. It was a keenly contested contest with the matches swinging first one way and then the other and two decided by just one hole. Captain of the Day, Ken Metcalfe was certainly able to feel more comfortable in his after-dinner speech than was Seniors’ Captain Richard Parsons, the week before !
