The Seniors turned up for their annual shindig with the weather set for good golf, prior to the AGM and dinner.
In the Dudley Watts Cup on the Church Course, there was an incredible four way tie on 34 points. Naturally, there was much debate about if’s, but’s and maybe’s in the bar afterwards!
1st Kevin Birkett
2nd Des Kelly
3rd Derek Rushton
On the Holywell course, things were more clear cut for the Len Howarth Trophy.
1st Peter Meredith 38 points
2nd Tyrrell Sandry 36 points
After a much earned drink or two in the bar, members then retired to attend the AGM.
After welcoming the guests - Julian Darnell (club chairman), Simon Greatorex (general manager) and Tony Mindel (club captain), Captain Keith Hawke announced the winners of the various competitions throughout the year. The prizes were presented by Tony.
Then down to the serious business, with the Captain, the Secretary and Treasurer giving their reports, with a few jokes interspersed.
The Treasurer reported that the finances were in good shape, with a healthy cash balance.
There were two proposals and both were carried.Firstly, because of the huge oversubscription for this years Seniors’ Open, next year’s number of participants will be increased accordingly.
Secondly, in order to introduce new blood into the section, the age limit will be lowered to 55, in line with a lot of other clubs.
After the meeting, members retired to the dining room and were served the usual excellent meal by Iain and his team.
