The second round Bowl match played at Merlin on Saturday (10th November) proved far from magical for the St Enodoc team who suffered a disappointing 3-2 defeat to Newquay.
First pair out Anders Tensjo and Sam Mcloskey got off to a slow start and never got back on terms with their opponents finally going down to a 2 and 1 defeat. The second pairing of the ever dependable David Bastard and Peter George were always ahead and closed their game out on the 18th for a one hole victory. Third pair out Mark Richards and Greg Mather carried on their fine form from the previous round with a fine 7 and 5 victory. With St Enodoc now up 2-1 we only needed a point from one of the last two games but unfortunately Danny Hoare and Kevin Parker lost out to a very strong pairing on the 15th, this left everything down to Geoff Jones and Norman Hawkey who brought their match back to one down after a great 10 footer from Geoff on 16 but heartbreak was to come on 17 when their opponents holed an unlikely 40 footer across the green for a 2 and 1 victory and to secure the match 3-2 for Newquay.
Captain Mark Richards would like to thank all of the players who have played this year for the Bowl Team and also all the caddies and supporters who have helped out this year. Finally it was great to see Sue Jones and Annie Hawkey getting so excited to see their men performing something they both admit hasn't happened for a very long time.
