Two of the knockout match play competitions were recently concluded with John Pease taking on his Frank Wills partner Kevin Brenton in the Sandys Cup and the pairing of Sue Roworth and Bev Vann taking on Kevin Brenton and Andy Beare in the final of the Angus Scott.
John Pease got past Geoff Jones in his semi-final to secure a spot in the final of the Sandys Cup and was joined in the final by Kevin Brenton after he came out on top in his semi-final against the in form Richard Blake. In the final John Pease led one up at the turn and this proved to be a lead he would not relinquish winning the 13th,14th and 15th to close out the match 4 and 3.
Kevin did however have another chance at securing one of the club’s knockout titles after he and his partner Andy Beare secured their spot in the Angus Scott final after beating the strong pairing of Nick Evans and Martin Biddle in their semi-final. They were joined in the final by the pairing of Sue Roworth and Bev Vann after they beat the competitive pair of Anders and Trudie Tensjo in the opposing semi-final. The final turned out to be a very close match with it going right down to the final hole, Bev and Sue got off to a flying start and were 4 up after 8 holes with Kevin and Andy winning the ninth hole to be 3 down at the turn. This proved to be the start of a very good run of holes and a strong comeback with the pair playing the last 10 holes in one over par to secure the win on the 18th green and with it the Angus Scott Trophy.
