Harkening back to the days of the 'bogey' competition, the Rowe Cup was played on Saturday.
Now called a Par Competition, this event seems to confuse many of our male members. This must have been the case on Saturday because only 47 players teed it up for this cup competition. Nonetheless, Phil Hoare went out undaunted and scored +2 against the course to take the cup and the winnings on the day. This was an impressive win, outpacing the next best scores - Stuart Morley and Adrian Hansell, both with dead level scores - by two full shots.
The Rowe Up was, up until fairly recently, played as a 36-hole competition, with the second round played on the following Sunday. It was changed to an 18-hole comp mainly because so few played the second round. Based upon Saturday's turnout, this seems a good decision!
Onwards we go into the final round of the Battle Trophy next Saturday with hopefully a bigger field.
