The Richard Beaven Mixed Matchplay competition is now underway and yesterday afternoon saw a 1st round tie with Sue & Geoff Jones playing Penny Moon & Steve Buse.
Jones & Jones won the first, Buse & Moon the second, the Jones\' the third with a par and giving a shot. On the fourth Sue hit a terrific drive up to the gulley, whilst Penny knocked her drive out of bounds, Steve reloaded off the red tee and hit a monster towards the green, Geoff played the Jones\' second shot to centre of green. On arrival at the green all were searching for the Buse/Moon ball assuming it would be up against the wall or through the green, but it was nowhere to be seen, an optimist of the four thought to check the hole and there it was, Steve Buse hole in one 237 yards off the red tee ! How to win a hole three off the tee.
Thus encouraged Steve and Penny marched on to win the match 2 & 1.
Now here\'s a question was Steve\'s shot a real pukka hole in one ? It was Steve\'s first shot but the third shot for the pair. For me it\'s a hole in one and if not it certainly deserves to be.
Incidentally this is Sue Jones second involvement in a hole-in-one this week; she had one herself on Tuesday playing in the Ladies stableford and of which our Chief Ladies Reporter will no doubt have more to say in due course.
