The Management Committee, conscious of it\'s responsibility of fiduciary care but also of more a general nature in terms of the environment, recently set up a small sub-committee to examine the potential benefits to the Club of renewable energy. After consideration the Management Committee agreed with the findings of the sub-committee that solar energy would be of benefit both to the Club and to the environment.
Solar energy is not only sustainable, it is renewable and this means that we will never run out of it. It is about as natural a source of power as it is possible to generate electricity.
The creation of solar energy requires little maintenance. Once solar panels have been installed and are working at maximum efficiency there is only a small amount of maintenance required each year to ensure they are in working order.
After careful examination of various quotations for the work the contract was awarded to a local company and the work is now complete and producing electricity. Our panels have a maximum output of 30kWp and a potential saving of over 11 tonnes of Co2 per year. The Club\'s investment in solar power has a pay back period of about five years but the life of the installation is many times that.
A good place to view the panels is from the back of the Men\'s third tee.
