It was a glorious day on Saturday for the Prideaux Brune and Le Marchant Cups. The field of 80 enjoyed sunny conditions with only light winds and greens in the best of condition. No excuses then! And none needed for the leaders of each division with scores well below the Competition Standard Scratch.
Steve Smith won the Prideaux Brune Cup with a nett score of 67. Steve started with a 4 on the first and continued a brilliant front 9 with a birdie on 4 and 6. Steve’s handicap is cut to 9. In second place Norman Evans birdied the 14th and scored a nett 69, just narrowly beating Joe Cruse into 3rd place. Joe had a sensational round, hitting the lowest gross score of the day with 67 shots, to nett 69. Joe birdied 4, 5, 14 and 17, he thought he was on for a birdie on 16 when he hit a 4 iron to the green but landed in the bunker. 2 shots to get out left him with a disappointing 6 for the hole! (not as bad as Dave Oldham’s bunker experience on the 17th – he hit one drive and one putt, but 14 shots to get out of the bunker!)
In 4th place in the Prideaux Brune Cup Andy Beare scored a nett 69 along with Rob Cook in 5th place also with 69. Stuart Fleet came in 6th with a nett score of 70.
The winner of the Le Marchant Cup was Kevin Richards with a nett score of 67. Kevin’s steady round earns him another handicap cut to 14. In second place Mike Buse scored a nett 70, beating Ken Perring on countback into 3rd place. In 4th Mark Pimble scored 74 and Andy Griffith in 5th place returned with a nett 75 ahead of Colin Garnett in 6th place and Joe Tamblyn in 7th both also returning a nett 75.
