Weather as good as we have had all summer was one of the rewards for all those who signed up for our Club Captains Day on Saturday 1st October. This event was also coupled with the Mens Prize Giving Dinner.
Played in teams of four the stableford golf competition had a unique risk and reward scoring system designed to benefit those who chose to play from the Blue tees - but only if the score was par or better - a bogey or worse resulted in nul points. This did not deter Joe Cruse who managed six gross birdies from the Blue tees. The different scoring system challenged the Team Captains in deciding which tee to play from and not least their ability to complete the score card correctly.
After several count backs the winning teams were
1st M.Mills, P.Bendall, P.Mattinson and M.Worden
2nd N.Williams, M.Richards, J.Pease and A.Tenjso
3rd M.Buse, A.Bunt, S.Buse and K.Francis
All of the winners, down to fifth, were well rewarded with a very generous prize table.
Guest of Honour at the Prize Giving Dinner which followed was Scott Godfrey who as an amateur member of St.Enodoc won the English Amateur, played many times for England and famously beat Martin Kaymer 7 and 6 in a match against Germany. Having presented the various trophies Scott amusingly reminisced on his time as a St Enodoc Junior in a well appreciated speech.
This was an excellent day, and very good value for the £20 entry, which could have been better supported.
