As usual the course designers made every effort to make the Pandora\'s course as difficult as possible for this year\'s event on 10th December. With Andy Bunt and Andy Jolley, aided and abetted by Sam Jarvis, in charge we were in for trouble as they used the basic routing they had planned for last year when with frozen greens they had to use alternatives with pins on the fairways and even in the rough. This year they made up with some of the most difficult pin placements ever with very few further than a couple of feet from the edges of greens and always on ghastly slopes. The 4th green was really hard and the team of Cliff Markham, Chris Tickner, Wayne Mitchell and Geoff Matthews had 16 attempts before holing out. It is strongly rumoured that the the pin on 17th was actually set by the Marquis de Sade.
The wind had dropped somewhat and with just a few light showers at least the weather was kind for a change for the 16 teams playing a shotgun start Texas Scramble off 10% of the combined handicaps. The scores were excellent and the winners score phenomenal, bearing in mind that they were restricted to just 7 clubs each, and at a rough guess represented 10 under Par for the 16 holes. After the golf the very weary golfers were able to enjoy a well earned pastie before the prizes – all of an alcoholic nature which were presented by the Captain. Those going home with booze were:-
1st Tuck Clagett, Tony Mindel, Mike Worden & Lewis Wotherspoon 45.9
2nd Mike Buse, Dave Pooley, Tris Lang & Dave Flew 49.2
3rd John Paul, Simon Pain, Paul Godfrey & Chris Taper 49.7
4th Stuart Davison Snr., Ian Day, Julian Darnell & Mark Pimble 51.2
5th Andy Bunt, Mike Jarvis, Phil Jory & John Baxter 51.9
