With the dust now settled at Pinehurst after a superb US Open win for Martin Kaymer with course conditions more usually seen in the U.K. in a drought Summer, our thoughts now turn to our own Open as Regional Qualifying takes place on Monday 23rd June. The Open this year is back at Hoylake and to get there those not automatically qualified will need to go through various stages of qualifying via a total of 14 events in 9 different countries. In the U.K. we start with Regional Qualifying at 13 different courses and those that make it through will go to one of the four final qualifying venues which are Glasgow Gailes, Hillside, Sunningdale (New) and Woburn (Marquess). Various Tour pros join in at this stages and each of these fields is about 80 strong from which just 3 will go on to the hallowed turf of Hoylake.
The nearest Regional Qualifying course to Rock is at Remedy Oak near Bournemouth and it will see 3 representatives from St Enodoc in action. First up, is not surprisingly, our Touring Professional Antony Nash on his second attempt followed by Mark Justice for his fourth crack at making Final Qualifying which he did achieve 3 years ago going on to Royal Cinque Ports. The third musketeer is the young gun Josh Walsh making his first appearance. Also playing at Remedy Oak are 3 local Pros Richard Sadler from Killiow, Chris Gill from Newquay and Adam Frayne from Yelverton. Our three players with very different records are all hoping to be in the lucky 18 or so who go through from a field of 126. Good luck boys!
