Welcome to 2013 and a Very Happy New Year, let\'s just hope it is a bit drier than 2012. We have been asked to do a brief summary of the weather to put in perspective just how wet it was in 2012. With the benefit of 8 years of recorded weather data we “enjoyed” 1132 mm (39.8 ins) of rain in 2012; over the previous 7 years the rainfall had ranged from 525mm to 773 mm with an average of 583 mm (20.5 ins).
When you consider that the first 5 months of 2012 saw a total of 219 mm of which nearly half fell in May it is not hard to see how dry the Spring was. The last 7 months of the year produced a whopping 913 mm of which 554 mm fell between 1st October and 31st December which was more than we had in the whole of 2010!
