Played today under slate grey skies and with a breeze stiffening to 15 mph later in the afternoon the Viscountess Clifden Mixed Foursomes Stableford Trophy event escaped the forecast rain and all of the fifty-six participants enjoyed a dry round.
The Viscountess Clifden Trophy, which consists of a cigarette box and glass perfume bottle were first played for in 1906 and were subsequently “mislaid” for many years, is now always played over the August Bank Holiday.
The format is not easy and although the St Enodoc rough has now died back somewhat scores were low perhaps indicating that the breeze was indeed a factor.
Those who managed the conditions better than their fellow competitors were
1st: James & Liz Heis 34 points
2nd: Charles & Mary Rayment 32 points
3rd: Norman & Annie Hawkey 30 points (CB)
4th: Marc & Penny Knight 30 points
Prizes were presented by long time Member Frank Harper and whose birthday it was (four score years). Frank very generously provided every player with Pimms and birthday cake.
