On Monday, July 20th, Ladies Captain, Trudie Tensjo hosted "Music at the 19th", at St. Enodoc Golf Club on behalf of The Chris Treglown Foundation. The Foundation, set up in 2012 by John and Julia Treglown in memory of their son, Chris, tragically killed in a car accident, is designed to raise funds to help aspiring young singers pursue their musical training. Each year awards are made to successful candidates both from Cornwall and from MJUK, the company in Gloucestershire where Chris had been a member.
The evening of song, introduced six former and two current award winners to an enthusiastic audience of over 100, treated to an eclectic programme of classical opera and contemporary musical theatre. Internationally distinguished mezzo soprano, Maria Jagusz, director of MJUK. spoke about each of the performers and joined the singers in two of the arias. It is invidious to single one performer but mention should be made of Daniel Annear who took part in the Workshops in St. Minver last year and whose rapid progress earned him the Cornish award this year. Barrie Cooper once again provided the accompaniment, joined by Chris Hamilton for some of the performances of the Cornish winners.
The Golf Club provided superb hospitality and a delicious finger buffet was provided during the interval. Julia Treglown brought the evening to an end with a few words about the Trust, expressed thanks to Maria, Trudie and the Club, and the audience was reminded about the forthcoming workshops during the week beginning August 17th, the Concerts on 22nd and 23rd August in St. Minver Church and the entertainment in The Waterfront, Polzeath on Tuesday, 25th.
