Immaculately organised by Terri Gliddon and under the leadership of Club Captain Tony Rounsevell a party of twenty-four mixed golfers this week ventured to the venue of the 2010 Ryder Cup - Celtic Manor near Newport Wales.
Blessed with two dry and sunny days this intrepid party played on the Roman Road course and the Ryder Cup course - \"The Twenty-Ten\". A team event on the first day was followed by an individual stableford competition on the second. Winners of the team event on the Roman Road course were Myles Elliott, Jim Lockhart, Trudie Tensjo & Terri Gliddon. The individual stableford competition on the \"Twenty-Ten\" course was won by Heather Webber and David Elliott. The Lawrence of Arabia Trophy for most bunkers visited was won by Pete Smith whilst the Oxford English Dictionary Award for Linguistics went to Ellie Elliott.
Without doubt the individual highlight of the trip belonged to Barbara Graham and who had a glorious hole-in-one on the par 3 seventh on the \"Twenty-Ten\" course. Celtic Manor reacted promptly to the news and presented Barbara with a commemorative certificate at the end of her round. It is rumoured, but unconfirmed, that this was the first hole-in-one on the course for three years.
