On Friday the 16th May St Enodoc took on Trevose in the fourth round of the Mail on Sunday team competition. St Enodoc were drawn at home with an unchanged team of John Paul, Joe Combellack, Andy Bunt, Russell Combellack and John Pease.
John Paul was out first playing the very experienced Steve Davis who plays of +1 and so John was receiving 7shots, both players played some excellent golf and in the end the match was halved. Next out was young Joe who played solidly all the way around and won his match 3&2. Third out for the home team was Andy Bunt playing against David Cowans, this match was to and fro all the way around the course with neither player being more than 1 up at any one point but alas David went 1 up on the 17th and halved the last to win 1 up. Russell Combellack next out met an opponent who was very much in form and lost his match 6&5, so this meant that last man John Pease had to win his match for the score to be two and a half each.
John's match was all square on 17 but a good 4 on 18 meant he won 1 up and then had to carry on down the 19th to decide the overall match. Both players hit good drives but poor seconds with our man being in the bank below the 17th green however their player was worse off and buried his in the bank to the right of the fairway and couldn't move it with his next shot and so chipped out for 4. John then chipped short for 3 and on for 4 and after their player chipped on and 2 putted for a 7 John had 2 putts to win and the hole was conceded so the home team won and go through, a hard fought win but well done.
