L-R Joe Combellack, Dave Lupton, Lewis Bradley, Simon Welch, John Paul & Matt Fox
On Sunday 14th April our intrepid team braved the elements at Mullion, 5 degrees and strong winds, to take on Truro in the A team county week preliminary round.
First out were Dave Lupton and Lewis Bradley. Although three down after eight holes, mainly due to excellent Truro putting, they reeled off four wins in five holes and eventually ran out winners by 3&2.
Next out were John Paul and Simon Welch who also came from three down, produced golf of a good standard to battle back, unfortunately losing 1 down in a really tight match.
Finally, Joe Combellack and Matt Fox (making his team debut for St.Enodoc) went three down in the early stages, but rallied with birdies, notably at the 17th to level the match. Pars for both teams at the last meant a trip down the 19th hole (the 1st at Mullion is a par three). Matt hit a super tee shot on to the green, however it being downwind the ball trickled over the back into a difficult position. A par proved good enough for Truro to win, securing the match overall 2-1.
Well done to both teams who produced exciting matches played in a good spirit on a challenging day.
