St. Enodoc Golf Club - Mens Club Championship 2016

Mens Club Championship 2016

Players were blessed with delightful conditions on the weekend for the Club Championships. A moderate north westerly breeze in dry and pleasant weather made for a perfect day on the links.

The Men played on Saturday in the 18-hole medal that comprised the Woodcote Park Cup for best net score as well as the first round of the Magor Gold Medal, which is the Club Championship 36-hole medal played off scratch.

72 players entered the Saturday round and some very good scores were returned. The winner on the day was Keith Thompson with a fine net 65. In second place was Colin Reynolds with 68 and in third was Steve Buse on 69.

Joe Cruse had the best gross score on Saturday with a level-par 69.

20 players returned on Sunday morning to complete the Magor Gold Medal and to try to improve on their Saturday efforts for best 36-hole net score as well.

Winning the Magor Gold Medal for the fifth time was Joe Cruse, who shot another 69 – making his total 36-hole gross score 138. Josh Greenway was second best in the scratch prizes with a gross 143. Joe’s efforts were good enough to win him the best net prize as well in a countback over Colin Reynolds, net score for 36 holes of 142.

Whilst many members went through stress and strain on the Church course in the Club Championships this weekend 10 couples went out on the Holywell in a mixed greensome competition. There were many good scores and judging by the conversations in the clubhouse the majority had a good time on a beautiful day for golf. It added to a great atmosphere in the clubhouse when all gathered for the prize giving for the weekend’s events.
