The lack of pressure in the Men’s fun competitions produces some very good golf indeed. That free-wheeling spirit that comes with the team games gets everyone in the mix, which is enjoyable. And enjoyable it was on Saturday with warm temperatures and lovely conditions on the Church Course; although the early players did have to contend with some thick sea mist which made life interesting.
Birdies abounded on Saturday in the Men’s 3 Ball Better Ball Competition, where there was one score to count on the front nine holes and two to count on the back. A level-two’s score would have been 54 and would seem to be quite respectable, don’t you think? Well, you would be wrong! Level two’s would get you nowhere.
Winning the day with a remarkable 60 points was the team of Richard Lawrence, Steve Cock and Sam Jarvis.
Second on countback were Mike Buse, Rob Cook and Russell Combellack with 59 points. Also on 59 was the team of Kevin Brenton, Richard Matheron and Nigel Buse as well as Ken Perring, Guy Hovil and Adrian Hansell. Claiming the last of the five prizes was Chris Tickner, Matt Mills and Keith Thompson with 58 points on countback.
